“CCA supports us in many ways to welcome and integrate refugees and their families into our community, by offering clothes, footwear and other essential items as they rebuild their lives.
As an example: I first met Clarie Lewis at CCA a few years ago, when I supported a young refugee who had just given birth. She had been offered a small, unfurnished studio flat by the council. With her limited funds, our first call was to CCA who were able to provide her with a home-starter pack including bedlinen, towels, pots, pans and a microwave oven. She was also able to buy a bed and fridge at a discounted rate and delivered to her new home free of charge. All this was organised over a friendly chat and cup of tea, with no rush.
Over the years, we have referred many refugees to CCA. They always receive a warm welcome and are delighted to be given good quality clothes and shoes. The process of receiving items through a voucher system allows the refugees to pick and choose the items in a dignified way, as they would in a shop, which is highly appreciated.
We are deeply grateful to CCA for their generosity and compassion. It is always a pleasure to work with them, and I wish them well as they continue with their vital work in supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals in Reading and beyond.”
